For any site running the GFI Theme that uses The Events Calendar plugin, the Cards block will sort cards of type “Event” in ascending start date order. This applies to “dynamic” cards (cards loaded from the database on page load, rather than pre-selected “curated” cards). This new sorting applies only when the “Events” post type is selected by itself and not mixed with other post types.
This new sorting behavior can be observed in the cards block at the bottom of any event on gfi.org, such as the 2023 RFP Session One:
This new sorting behavior does not apply to other post types. This ensures that when the Cards block is used to dynamically display blog posts, for example, that the post dates remain in descending order (see the Recent blog posts cards block on gfi.org):
